Verdict on Section 377 is finally out: Gay sex is not a crime

It is indeed an important and a memorable day for the LGBTQ community as the Supreme Court finally has given their verdict on the Section 377 and made homosexuality legal in India.

The Section 377 under the Indian Penal code established in the year 1861 at the time of the British rule of India says that all sexual activities 'against the order of nature' that includes homosexual activities will be criminalised. After a long battle by the LGBTQ community, the Supreme Court had given the verdict that from now onwards discrimination against LGBTQ individuals (gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and lesbian) will be punishable. This verdict is a step towards guaranteeing full fledged fundamental rights to the LGBTQ community.
